What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It is a subtle yet powerful healing modality based on the traditional, ancient philosophy that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress. If it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words: Rei, which means God's Wisdom or the Higher Power, and Ki which is life force energy. So Reiki is actually spiritually guided life force energy.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki is a naturally safe and simple method of spiritual healing and self-improvement. The therapist channels energy into the patient by means of light touch or no touch, activating the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restoring physical and emotional well-being.

Reiki gently balances Ki to help in enhancing the body's natural ability to heal itself by promoting energy to flow. Ki flows within the physical body through energetic pathways called chakras, meridians, and nadis. It can flow internally through the organs and tissues of the body, and externally around us in a field of energy known as the aura.

When Ki flows more freely through the emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies, it can create many beneficial effects that include deeper relaxation, feelings of peace, security, and overall balanced well-being. While Reiki is spiritually guided, it is not dependent on belief and will work whether you believe in it or not.

What are some benefits of Reiki?

Reiki has the potential to heal the connection between animals and humans on a higher, deeper level.

It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and expedite recovery.

It promotes natural balance and helps to dissolve any energy blocks between mind, body, and spirit.

Reiki’s healing power includes:

  • Accelerating the body's self-healing ability

  • Helping spiritual growth and emotional cleansing

  • Offering inner peace and balance for emotional stress and dis-ease

Beneficial in healing animals with emotional and behavioral issues, Reiki helps to calm an animal before and during an exam and procedures. It can also:

  • Aid in providing post-surgical comfort and recovery support

  • Relieve symptoms associated with anxiety and pain

  • Increase energy levels through re-balancing

  • Support and boost the immune system

  • Help natural remedies integrate more effectively

  • Compliment western medicine and alternative healing therapies

Reiki can aid the body in releasing stress and tension through deeper relaxation and help relieve an animal from feelings of stress and confusion. This modality offers comfort and balance to grieving and abused animals as well as supportive love to individuals experiencing hospice care or at the end-of-life stage.

What may be expected during a session?

For the recipient, Reiki generally is an experience of peace, relaxation, and feels like a glowing radiance that flows through and around the recipient. With time and patience, Reiki can help aid the animal with the deeper healing that is needed.

If an animal is experiencing Reiki for the first time, I find they can come from one of two reactions, depending on their past experience with humans:

  • Majority of the time they recognize the healing potential of Reiki immediately and settle into soaking up the benefits of it; often times relaxing and falling asleep during the session.

  • On the rare occasion, they can shy away from this new sensation and try to avoid the energy all together. The animal and I will connect in order to determine what they are willing to accept and what is best for them.

How is a Reiki session offered and how long does it last?

Sessions are offered either in-person or from a distance (as energy can travel by intent).

In-person sessions with an animal typically last up to an hour. Distant sessions are usually shorter in length.

Please Note: Animals are much more sensitive to energy in general than humans are, and will feel the strong healing effects of the Reiki immediately. Because of this, they can sense the level of healing energy they would like to receive, whether this be 15 minutes or the full hour. The animal will let me know when they have received all they need for that session.

Where is a Reiki session performed?

I travel to the animal's location.  (Travel fees may apply.)

the session is performed wherever they are most comfortable or housed (a specific location within the home, in a favorite bed, in a barn, pasture, cage, in my lap, etc.)

It is very important that the location where the session takes place be as free from surrounding distraction and loud noises as possible in order for the animal to fully benefit the most during our time together.

What if my animal companion is not at a home location and is in a shelter, hospital, etc?

In the case the animal is in a non-home location, I ask that you get approval from your Veterinarian or facility manager prior to scheduling an appointment with me. After permission is granted for me to perform the session on their premises, I will contact the hospital or facility to make arrangements regarding when the best visiting-hour time frame is to schedule a session with your animal companion.

As veterinary visits to a hospital can often times be stressful and anxiety-producing for an animal, a session can also be made with me, where my schedule allows, to join you and your animal companion at a veterinary appointment to help bring greater ease to you and the animal.

How is Reiki being accepted by the western world of medicine now?

Many human hospitals and clinics (including many cancer-treating facilities) are now offering Reiki at their locations after witnessing and appreciating the healing effects of Reiki on patients struggling through illness, disease, pain, discomfort, and stress.

It has not always been understood by the mainstream medicine world, although more and more studies are coming out in medical journals stating the positive effects observed from this healing energy. The correlation between the emotional and physical body relationship is becoming more understood and respected everyday.
